Join visiting artist John Reid (Emeritus Fellow of The Australian National University), UNM Land Arts of the American West students and community members to create Walk the Solar System on Civic Plaza in Downtown Albuquerque to reaffirm the environmental health of planet Earth as essential for the preservation of our humanity. Participants will adopt a strident walking pose for one, silent, perfectly still, contemplative minute to traverse together more than a thousand miles through the Universe relative to the Sun. Walking the Solar System is an exercise in imagination that highlights our physical immersion in the vast expanse of space. No one will get lost. Everyone returns from a Solar Walk as a confirmed Solurban Citizen convinced of the real estate value of our planet - it’s irreplaceable, it’s priceless!
An elevated panoramic camera will record the Solar Walk from a central position on Civic Plaza. The photographic documentation will be sent as an aesthetic message of aspiration and hope from Mira Costa College to the 2015 Paris Climate Conference via submission to the associated art and cultural program, ArtCOP21.
Location: Outdoors on Civic Plaza, Downtown Albuquerque
