What does the future look like under climate change? The Apocalypse Project: House of Futures is a 7-month exhibition at the Future Gallery of the Institute for the Future (IFTF) in Palo Alto that explores our environmental futures through the lens of high fashion.
The Apocalypse Project: House of Futures exhibition speculates on the future of humanity under climate change through the lens of high fashion. What will you wear if rising sea levels, increased global temperatures, superstorms, drought, and polar vortexes become the new normal? Among the projects in this exhibition include speculative garments, hats, perfumes, and jewelry. These interdisciplinary projects are the result of conversations and collaborations with scientists. Through the duration of the exhibition, there will be various public events open to the family at IFTF’s Gallery for the Future. Visitors are also allowed to interact with and wear the projects as well as design their own clothing. The exhibition is a participatory platform where people can discuss their ideas about what makes a sustainable planet and what for them is a desirable future.
The Apocalypse Project was created in 2013 and has traveled to Singapore, Manila, Seoul, and San Francisco.
