BCAS (Bangladesh Center for Advanced Studies) conducted regional consultation workshops in each of the major six districts, to understand how climate change affects the daily life and livelihoods of farmers, fishermen, businessmen, women, local authorities...

Bangladesh is one of the most vulnerable countries affected by climate change. The government regularly takes part in climate negotiations and hosts various discussions in the presence of specialists. However, ordinary people of Bangladesh, who are the direct victims of climate change, do not have the opportunity to express their opinion in national and local discussions. And it would be valuable to answer to some questions asked by the Government such as how climate change is affecting their daily lives and their livelihoods, what techniques have been developed to adapt to and limit the damage, how climate change is addressed at national level and international, and especially what are they expecting from the climate conference in Paris?

To answer to these questions, the BCAS has organized regional consultation workshops in each of the six major administrative divisions (Dhaka, Chittagong, Rajshahi, Khulna, Sylhet and Barisal). Participants were farmers, fishermen, businessmen, social activists, representatives of civil society / NGOs and community leaders.

The study was co-funded by the embassies of France and Bangladesh Norway and the EU Delegation in Bangladesh.
