Marbre d’ici is a work of art produced with locally collected rubble. Demolition and building-site waste are transformed into a new raw material to be used in the making of public space.
Public waste transformed ! On the 23rd, 26th and 27th of septembre 2015, you can come an see our team working on this monumental art work made out of recycled concrete. Here Marbre d’ici takes the form of a 260 square metre concrete slab integrated in the fabrication of a new public square: Place du Général de Gaulle in Ivry-sur-Seine.
Come and meet the TRANS305 crew, the artiste and the companies working on the project. The public is invited to attend to the casting of this open-air sculpture made out of more than ten tons of rubble (bricks, limestone, tiles…) coming from the locally demolished buildings. Crushed and pulverized, the rubble becomes part of a new concrete used to cast the floor of the public square.
Marbre d’ici is a commission by Grand Paris Aménagement and the City of Ivry-sur-Seine. Artist Stefan Shankland conceived the project with the collaboration of Raum architects and the CERIB, as part of the TRANS305 program.
