The Cateura Orchestra of recycled instruments directed by Favio Chávez consists of children and teenagers living in the neighborhood of Sur Bañado located in the vicinity of the discharge "Cateura" of Asunción (Paraguay)
The group's particularity is to interpret musical works with recycled instruments made from recovered waste in the landfill. Thus, the Orchestra of the instruments imitate violins, violas, cellos, basses, guitars, flutes, saxophones, trumpets, trombones and percussion. The repertoire of the orchestra alternates between classical music, folk music of Paraguay, Latin American folk music, music of the Beatles, Frank Sinatra, film music, etc.
The orchestra aims to develop a comprehensive education process for children and young people living in precarious conditions and in social situations of vulnerability. Through music as motivator, these young people have the opportunity to live different experiences that help them build, to learn, to complete their education, develop their creativity and access opportunities that can improve their future.
