A tiny music festival in the Arctic Circle. Musicians from Norway, the UK and the USA providing two magical and unusual nights under the Northern Lights (hopefully).
Ice Station Vadsø is a mini music festival being staged in the Arctic Circle, as part of Michèle Noach's artist residency in Finnmark.
Noach has worked in and about the Arctic for over ten years, largely with Cape Farewell, and exhibited her work internationally, addressing climate and more specifically ice. She will be in Vadsø for a month, both researching and producing material related to the immediate environment of Vadsø and the larger Arctic region, this work being part of a longer project located there.
The two-night festival is a celebration of both place and people, and will include a workshop with local Sami musicians. The event is now sold out.
For a full list of musicians please see attached flyer of Facebook page Ice Station Vadsø. Michèle Noach will write a daily blog as part of her residency and the research and artwork will conclude with an exhibition within 12 months. A small independent film is also being made during this time of the festival, area and residency.
This event could not take place without the help of Kirsti Riesto, Torfinn Strømsmo and Robert Lundgren of Vadsø, and Finnmark Fylkeskommune.
