Light Field is a collaboration between sound artist Bill Thompson and dance artist Saffy Setohy. It is an evolving, inter-related constellation of people, light, sound and space within a playful off-grid environment.
Light Field invites participant-audiences to gather and interact through simple movement instructions and kinetically powered sound and light devices. How do we perceive and understand our part in the Light Field microcosm? How do we interact with it? What can we learn from this interaction?
Visually arresting, with a subtle sound score made of the sound of light, the work also connects to ideas of the contrasting needs for light around the world, referencing the current UN Year of Light, which seeks to support the provision of electricity within developing countries, and the Dark Skies project in the UK, which seeks to protect dark and technologically quiet places.
Light Field is being developed in partnership with Creative Carbon Scotland, Collectif12, Dance House/CCA Creative Labs, and Gayfield Creative Spaces in the context of artcop21, artcop Scotland and the UN Year of Light.
Note that it takes place in a basement room which is down some steep steps, so not very disabled accessible. This is due to the nature of the project which requires a dark space.
This event is part of ArtCOP Scotland and is funded by the Creative Scotland Open Fund.
